Oh Lord, give me strength from Your hands.
I am that chaste whose lamp ran out of oil,
Oh Lord, give me wisdom from Your eyes.
And that disciple who betrayed You with a kiss.
I am the adulteress who was threatened with stones,
I am the one who denied You and cursed with his lips.
Oh Lord, give me blessing from Your palms.
I am the one who mocked You.
Oh Lord, give me forgiveness from Your lips.

"Heavenly Father, in His earthly life Your Son heard praise and scorn from others and He took no account. Let me take no account of the praises and insults I receive. Rather, let me die to the opinions and judgments of others that I may be saved and raised to new life in your image and likeness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen."

“A brother came to see Abba Macarius the Egyptian, and said to him, ‘Abba, give me a word, that I may be saved.’ So the old man said, ‘Go to the cemetery and abuse the dead.’ The brother went there, abused them and threw stones at them; then he returned and told the old man about it. The latter said to him, ‘Didn’t they say anything to you?’ He replied, ‘No.’ The old man said, ‘Go back tomorrow and praise them.’ So the brother went away and praised them, calling them ‘Apostles, saints and righteous men.’ He returned to the old man and said to him, ‘I have complimented them.’ And the old man said to him, ‘Did they not answer you?’ The brother said no. The old man said to him, ‘You know how you insulted them and they did not reply, and how you praised them and they did not speak; so you too if you wish to be saved must do the same and become a dead man. Like the dead, take no account of either the scorn of men or their praises, and you can be saved.’” (St. Macarius of Egypt)

(Proverbs 26) As snow in summer and rain in harvest, so honour is not fitting for a fool. Like a flitting sparrow, like a flying swallow, so a curse without cause shall not alight. A whip for the horse, a bridle for the donkey, and a rod for the fool’s back. Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like him. Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes. He who sends a message by the hand of a fool cuts off his own feet and drinks violence. Like the legs of the lame that hang limp is a proverb in the mouth of fools. Like one who binds a stone in a sling is he who gives honour to a fool. Like a thorn that goes into the hand of a drunkard is a proverb in the mouth of fools. The great God who formed everything gives the fool his hire and the transgressor his wages. As a dog returns to his own vomit, so a fool repeats his folly. Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him. The lazy man says, “There is a lion in the road! A fierce lion is in the streets!” As a door turns on its hinges, so does the lazy man on his bed. The lazy man buries his hand in the bowl; it wearies him to bring it back to his mouth. The lazy man is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who can answer sensibly. He who passes by and meddles in a quarrel not his own is like one who takes a dog by the ears. Like a madman who throws firebrands, arrows, and death, is the man who deceives his neighbour, and says, “I was only joking!” Where there is no wood, the fire goes out; and where there is no talebearer, strife ceases. As charcoal is to burning coals, and wood to fire, so is a contentious man to kindle strife. The words of a talebearer are like tasty trifles, and they go down into the inmost body. Fervent lips with a wicked heart are like earthenware covered with silver dross. He who hates, disguises it with his lips, and lays up deceit within himself; when he speaks kindly, do not believe him, for there are seven abominations in his heart; though his hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness will be revealed before the assembly. Whoever digs a pit will fall into it, and he who rolls a stone will have it roll back on him. A lying tongue hates those who are crushed by it, and a flattering mouth works ruin.
Every sin that a man commits is outside his body, but he who commits the sins of impurity sins against his own body... The man who commits adultery lacks understanding; he who does so destroys his own soul. Wounds and dishonour he will get and his shame will not be wiped away... (1 Corinthians 6:18; Proverbs 6:32)

“These people draw near to Me with their mouths and honour Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me. In vain they worship Me. Teaching for doctrine the commandments of men..." (Matthew 15:8-9).
حولي عني عينيك فإنهما قد غلبتاني... (نشيد الأنشاد 6: 5)
