Then a Samaritan woman came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” But the Samaritan woman said to Him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan. How is it that you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans). Jesus said to her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is who says to you, “Give me a drink”, you would have asked Him for a drink and He would have given you living water.” “Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where is it that you get this living water from? Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his cattle?” Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks from this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I give him shall never thirst but the water that I give him will become in him a well of spring water to eternal life.” The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water so that I may not thirst again!” Then He said to her, “Go, call your husband and come here.” But she said, “I have no husband.” “You have correctly said you have no husband. For you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband. This you have said truly!” “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place to worship.” Jesus said to her “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. For you worship what you do not know but we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.” Yet a time is coming and now is when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for the Father is seeking as such to worship Him. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in Spirit and in truth.” The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (He who is called Christ) is coming. When He does, He will tell us all things.” Jesus said to her “I who speak to you am He.”
