If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have no love, I have become a sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy, understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have faith that can move mountains, but have no love, I am nothing. If I give up all my wealth and I give my body to be burned, but have no love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongdoings. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will pass away… (1 Corinthians 13:1-13)
